With so many different providers, platforms, devices, converters, and formats on the market, many people have questions. Here are some of the most common ones that occur to people. If you don’t see your question here, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always happy to help.

What exactly is an eBook?
An eBook is simply a book in digital format. The book has been converted into a file that can be downloaded over the internet by anyone that has access to the platform. The eBook has all the same text, pictures, and more than a standard book has.

What kind of eBooks are there?
There is a multitude of eBook types on the market. You can find every genre and topic in a variety of formats that will work with your eReader device.

Whats the best eBook platform?
The best eBook platform is going to depend on what you are trying to do. All eBook platforms have different pros and cons, so the best one will be whichever platform is most in line with the author’s goals.

Do all the platforms have different formats?
A lot of the platforms do have specific formats. Most eReaders will support a variety of different formats, but not all of them. So you need to be careful when choosing which format to convert to. When in doubt, choose your platform then see which formats are supported on that platform.

What are the biggest platforms out there?
The main platforms you should evaluate are Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook, Kobo eBookstore, Apple iTunes, and Google eBooks. There are other, smaller platforms that you can consider based on your personal goals.

Can I make money selling eBooks?
You can definitely make money selling eBooks if you write something that becomes a hit. Most authors don’t make millions selling their eBooks, but they do make a little money from it.

How do I convert my manuscript to the required formatting?
When looking to convert your manuscript, it is best to hire someone to take care of the formatting for you. Different platforms and formats require different things. You can avoid a lot of stress by hiring a competent company to handle it for you.

What happens if somethings wrong with my converted book?
If you hired us to convert your book and you find an error with it, notify us immediately and we will address the issue for you. We want you to be as happy as possible with your results.

Can I outsource the conversion to an overseas company?
You could outsource your conversion to an overseas company, however, there are some issues with that. Many times the quality of overseas conversions is not as high as companies based in the U.S. or Canada. Their prices may be lower, but their quality is often lower as well.

This eBook converter is offering me a free ISBN. What does that mean? Should I take the offer?
An ISBN is an International Standard Book Number. ISBNs are used as identification numbers for specific books. These are very useful, however, you should be leery of any company offering you a cheap or free ISBN. In some cases, they can use that ISBN to claim proprietary rights over your work, essentially cutting you out of any chances of earning royalties on your book.

I can publish the same eBook on multiple platforms, right?
Depending on the formatting you choose, you can publish on multiple platforms. However, you need to be very careful about publishing on different platforms. Many of the big companies like Amazon have exclusivity agreements that you enter into when you agree to have your work hosted by their services. Read all contracts carefully.

If so many people have access to my work, how do I know its safe?
If you get a good converter and host on the right platform, both the converter and the platform can use DRM and other measures to make sure your work isn’t copyable or editable.

What does DRM do, exactly?
DRM protects your text to keep people from altering it and copying it. This protects your work and your earnings by preventing people from “pirating” your book.

Do I need a cover design for my eBook?
It is definitely recommended that you have a cover for your eBook. Good eBook converters can often provide one for you.

How long does the conversion take?
The length of the conversion process depends on the company you choose. Overall, the turnaround time should be shorter for the conversion, but you should still plan plenty of time to review everything.

Will the conversion company list my book for me?
No. Once it’s converted, you need to take the steps to get your book listed on your preferred hosting platform. The conversion company only makes the files for you.

How do I know I picked a good company?
Check for customer testimonials about the company’s services. Also, look for certification by the BBB. If the Better Business Bureau has certified your conversion company, you’ve picked a good one.

I can just do the conversions myself, right? It would save me money.
It is only recommended that you attempt to do conversions yourself if you already know the ins and outs of the formatting and have the necessary software. If you don’t have that knowledge and skill base, it’s better to pay for someone else to do it to guarantee that your formatting will be done correctly.
